Compatibility and available ports for SCO platforms
The SCO Unix is the most often used commercial
Unix platform for Intel processors.
Due of the long history of SCO, the different Unix platforms
are not fully object-compatible to each other.
Consequently, to ensure the full system compatibility, there are five
different
FlagShip ports
for SCO Unix systems
(here listed from newest to oldest):
-
FlagShip for SCO UnixWare 7.x
This version requires UnixWare 7.0 (or later) and the C compiler
from the UnixWare UDK Development Kit
(or alternatively gcc 2.7.x).
The distribution includes both the static and dynamic libraries.
You may download the
free Test Drive via ftp now. For the alternative web download,
use the corresponding link from Demos
Web page.
-
FlagShip for SCO OpenServer 5 (OS-5)
is ported on SCO 5.0.4 (OpenServer 5) with SDK Developer System vers. 5.1.0
(but tested also on OS 5.0.0 with SDK 5.0.0a). Do not use the UDK kit with
this port.
The distribution includes both the static and dynamic libraries.
The statically linked applications may also run
on other SCO Unix OpenServer releases (3.2.5), but not on rel. 3.2.4 and below.
You may alternativelly use the GNU c (gcc 2.7.x)
compiler, available on the FlagShip CD-ROM.
You may download the
free Test Drive via ftp now. For the alternative web download,
use the corresponding link from Demos
Web page.
-
FlagShip for SCO Unix 3.2.2 and 3.2.4
is ported on SCO 3.2.2 with Devel. System 3.2.2a and is compatible to
SCO releases 3.2.2 to 3.2.4.
The dynamic library is not included in this distribution.
The produced
executables are widely cross-compatible to all SCO Unix releases including
Open Server 5, but the special port for OS-5 is recommended when the
wide compatibility is not required or the OS-5 system is used for the
development.

free Test Drive via ftp now. For the alternative web download,
use the corresponding link from Demos
Web page.
-
FlagShip for SCO (or Novell) UnixWare 2.x or 4.x
is ported on UnixWare SVR4 rel 4.2.1 with
the sdk C development kit ccs 2.0. It was also tested on SVR4.0.3.
Although the produced executables are compatible to AT&T SVR4 x86, the
installation and some system tools differ. Therefore, FlagShip 4.4 is
available either for the generic AT&T/x86 or for UnixWare.
You may download the
free Test Drive via ftp now. For the alternative web download,
use the corresponding link from Demos
Web page.
-
FlagShip for SCO Xenix 386
is ported on Xenix rel 2.3.2 with the Develop.System rel 2.3.0a.
The distribution includes the static, but not the dynamic library.
Please choose the FlagShip port carefully according to your used system.
Using a FlagShip port incompatible to your SCO system
may cause unpredictable behaviour.
Note: the C compiler is required only for the development, but not
for the user of your application, which only needs the by FlagShip produced
executable. See also section SYS.1.2 of the FlagShip manual for further details how
to customize your application.
The required disk space on the /usr file system is approx. 15 to 25 MBytes for
the FlagShip installation. Check the available space with "df /usr"
(and divide the displayed size in 512K blocks by 2 to get Mbytes).
Licenses:
There are free licenses for test/evaluation purposes, see the
price list and
license terms for additional
details. When you already own FlagShip license and want to upgrade to
another SCO system, contact your dealer or
multisoft.
